Disney+ is laying more groundwork to bolster its content portfolio with a new hire and live-action series pick-up.

Disney Branded Television has named longtime Disney Channel executive Marc Buhaj as VP of unscripted series and specials. Formed in November, the division is led by president and CCO Gary Marsh and creates content for both Disney+ and the Disney linear channels.

In his new role, Buhaj (pictured) will oversee all non-fiction content for Disney+, including documentaries and docu-series, unscripted formats, variety shows and specials. He will also head up unscripted series and specials for Disney Channels, with the goal of delivering more original content by strengthening unscripted development for kids and family viewers.

Disney+ also has some new kids content on the way this month. The SVOD is adding Disney Channel live-action mystery series Secrets of Sulphur Springs to its lineup. Five episodes will launch on February 26, with a new one joining the streamer every Friday until April 9.

Shot in Louisiana and created by writer/producer Tracey Thomson (The Young and the Restless), Secrets of Sulphur Springs is about a family from Chicago that plans to restore a haunted hotel as a vacation destination. Gwave Productions produces the show, which was originally ordered in 2019 and premiered on linear in January 2021.
