ABC Australia has ordered new live-action series from Fremantle and Aquarius Films to launch on ABC ME, its free channel for kids ages six to 12.
Comedy-action series Parent Up (working title) from Aquarius Films targets eight- to 13-year-olds and centers around two kids who realize their missing parents are actually globetrotting super-spies. Justine Flynn (The Unlisted) is the creator and exec producer of this 10 x 24-minuter. Parent Up received financial support from ABC Commercial and production investment from government body Screen Australia, in association with Screen NSW and Cutting Edge. Aquarius will co-produce the series with Buster Production, which was also its partner on The Unlisted for the ABC and Netflix. ABC Commercial will distribute Parent Up internationally.
Fremantle Australia’s political dramedy The PM’s Daughter (working title) is a 10 x 26-minute series about a teenager who wants to fight the power with her friends, but has to deal with her Prime Minister mother. Tristram Baumber and Matthew Allred created the series, with Chris Oliver-Taylor and Baumber attached as EPs. Baumber and Lou Sanz are writing the scripts, and Alice Willison is also on board as a producer (pictured from left to right). The PM’s Daughter has received production investment from Screen Australia and Screen NSW, and financing from Fremantle International and non-profit kids media org the Australian Children’s Television Foundation (ACTF), which will jointly distribute the series worldwide.
Parent Up and The PM’s Daughter will expand the ABC’s growing live-action kids pipeline, which already includes BrindleFilm’s MaveriX and second seasons of Northern Picture’s Hardball and Komixx Entertainment’s Itch.
