Super Channel
The Canadian pay-TV network has picked up interconnected family series The Parker Andersons (10 x 30 minutes) and Amelia Parker (10 x 30 minutes), and plans to start airing them both on its Super Channel Heart & Home kids and family platform on April 19.
Co-produced by marblemedia and Beachwood Canyon Productions, the two comedies revolve around a newly blended family struggling to come together as a unit. They each have stand-alone story arcs, but there are often shared plotlines that connect them. Created by Anthony Farrell (The Office, Secret Life of Boys), BYUtv in the US was the first broadcaster to pick up The Parker Andersons and Amelia Parker, and it’s also launching them on April 19.
Warner Bros. Consumer Products
Under a new licensing agreement with 3D printing company Toybox Labs, WBCP is letting kids make their own toys themed around brands including Looney Tunes, DC’s Batman, Cartoon Network characters and Polar Express. Consumers who purchase a Toybox 3D printer will be able to connect to an online marketplace where they can pay to download and print the licensed toys.
Action figures of Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman, as well as miniature replicas of the Batmobile and Batman’s gadgets, were the first designs to launch and are all available now.
Edutainment Licensing
The UK distributor has sold season two of Yellow Spot Productions’ Super Geek Heroes to seven AVODs. Kidoodle.TV, Tubi, AmebaTV (North America), batteryPOP (US), Toon Goggles (US), Roku (US) and KidZtube (US) have all picked up the live-action series (seven x 11 minutes) that features creator and host David Jones reading original superhero-themed books aloud.
Asmodee
French board game publisher Asmodee has acquired Montreal-based manufacturer Plan B Games Group in order to expand its catalogue and development capacity, while increasing Plan B’s distribution reach.
Plan B has offices in Canada and Germany, and also operates game publishers Next Move, Pretzel Games and Eggertspiele. Its most popular game with upwards of two million units sold worldwide is Azul, where players take turns decorating a palace with colored tiles and earn points for artful designs. But the company also has Camel Up (players bet on which camel will win a race), Century: Spice Road (a card game focused on gaining and trading resources) and Great Western Trail (players herd cattle across the US) in its portfolio.
Asmodee is no stranger to acquisitions, having also bought Lion Rampart and Board Game Arena in the past few years.
Soyuzmultfilm
Vietnam’s FPT Telecom has picked up five animated series from Russian animation studio Soyuzmultfilm (SMF).
Mystery series The Secrets of Honey Hills (52 x seven minutes, pictured), sitcom The Adventures of Peter and Wolf (52 x 11 minutes), sitcom Mr Theo, Cat & Dog (52 x six minutes), comedy Captain Kraken and his Crew (26 x seven minutes) and Pirate School (11 x 11 minutes) will all air on FPT’s linear and OTT channels, although launch dates have not yet been announced.
