Disney Channel is ready to get rolling on a pilot for a new single-camera comedy series called Saturdays that revolves around a young girl who’s part of a competitive roller-skating crew.
The brainchild of executive producers Norman Vance Jr., Nicole Dow and Marsai Martin (pictured), the series will be produced by Martin’s studio Genius Entertainment. Its pilot was written by Vance, and Charles Stone III is on tap to direct.
Martin, now 16, founded Genius Entertainment with her parents, Joshua and Carol Martin. She became the youngest person to executive produce a major feature film (2019 comedy Little) at just 10 years old.
Danielle Jalade has been selected to play 13-year-old lead character Paris Johnson, with Omar Gooding, Golden Brooks, Jermaine Harris, Daria Johns, Samantha Smith and Yolanda Whitaker rounding out the cast.
This pilot order comes just days after Disney Channel announced that production was almost complete on its music-driven animated series Eureka!, which features a young inventor living in prehistoric times.
