Discovery’s recently launched SVOD discovery+ is looking to the kids menu, ordering The Jim Henson Company’s new live-action cooking comedy Duff’s Happy Fun Bake Time.

Featuring chef and TV personality Duff Goldman (Food Network Challenge, Iron Chef America), the six x half-hour series follows Goldman as he teaches different cooking techniques and makes different dishes with the help of puppet friends. It premieres on April 29.

Henson made the series to meet a demand for cooking shows, which have taken off amid the pandemic as at-home families spend time together making meals, says Halle Stanford, the prodco’s president of television.

“Over the last year, we have seen an increased need for shows that families can enjoy together,” she says. “More than that, inspiring families to connect, and find ways to be creative and explore together is in so much of our work, so this series continues that legacy.”

Stanford and the prodco’s CEO Lisa Henson will executive produce the series, alongside Goldman, Lisa Shotland and Jason deVilliers (Word Party).

Discovery launched discovery+ in the US on January 4. The non-fiction subscription service features more than 55,000 episodes from Discovery’s brands, including HGTV, Food Network, TLC, Discovery Channel and Animal Planet, as well as third-party networks, including A&E and Lifetime. Duff’s Happy Fun Bake Time is an outlier for the platform, which has to date focused primarily on the adult audience.
