Zodiak Kids Studios has partnered with Asner Productions to co-develop a live-action TV series for eight to 12s based on The Wollstonecraft Detective Agency book series by Jordan Stratford.
The alt-reality concept centers around Ada Lovelace (the world’s first computer programmer) and Mary Shelley (author of Frankenstein) as they solve mysteries in 19th-century London. There are four books in the series, the first of which was first published by Penguin Random House in 2015.
Asner Productions is led by Anne-Marie Asner, author of Yiddish-inspired children’s books including Shmutzy Girl, Noshy Boy and Bubbe & Zaide. Steven Andrew, creative director at Zodiak Kids, will serve as EP on the TV series. Zodiak Kids also controls the international distribution rights.
Zodiak Kids also has several other new shows in the works. In February, it optioned the rights to Konnie Huq’s Cookie books, with plans to turn them into a live-action show for seven to 12s. Zodiak also recently got a greenlight from Disney EMEA and Finnish broadcaster YLE for The Unstoppable Yellow Yeti, a co-production with Gigglebug.
