Skydance Media has named Luis Fernández as its first head of consumer products, with a remit to lead the company’s retail and L&M partnerships.

He will also be responsible for driving creative strategy, design and franchise development for the studio’s slate of feature films and television offerings, with an emphasis on growing Skydance Animation’s portfolio.

Fernández joins Skydance from a two-decade stint with The Walt Disney Company, where he most recently served as SVP and central creative for consumer products and interactive media involving the Pixar brands, Star Wars and Disney Princess.

Skydance Animation recently inked a multi-year overall deal with Apple to create animated films and series. Apple+ ordered two seasons of sci-fi/fantasy series The Search for WondLA, which follows a young girl who was raised by a robot as she embarks on a quest to find other humans on the now-desolate planet Earth. Skydance will also deliver feature films Luck and Spellbound to the streamer in 2022.
