ADK Emotions NY, which manages the Beyblade Burst (pictured) franchise, has named Shunichi Ogawa as its new president and CEO. Now based in New York, he started in the role on April 1 and heads up the Japanese company’s overseas division, with a focus on expanding its business in North America and Asia.

Ogawa joined ADK Emotions in 2005 and most recently served as a VP based in Tokyo. This promotion sees him take over from outgoing president Shuji Wada, who will remain on the board of directors for ADK Emotions’ Tokyo and New York offices.

As president and CEO, Ogawa will work closely with COO Daichi Wakabayashi to continue to expand the Beyblade Burst franchise. Nelvana International recently inked a number of licensing agreements for the brand in Europe, and digital kids network WildBrain has signed an exclusive agreement with Sunrights to develop and manage a global YouTube strategy (excluding Asia) for the Beyblade Burst series.

ADK Emotions is continuing to focus on growing its anime stable as the genre increasingly captures the attention of kids around the world. NPD ranked Avatar: The Last Airbender as the most-watched kids series on Netflix in the US earlier this year. And according to the market research firm, three of the top-10 most-watched children’s series on the streamer at the time were anime.

ADK Emotions is not alone in its quest to capitalize on anime’s resurgence. WarnerMedia relaunched its anime-focused programming block Toonami on Cartoon Network in Latin America; its Crunchyroll streaming service became a majority investor in manga/anime distributor VIZ Media Europe Group; and Hulu expanded its anime offering through a multi-year partnership with Funimation.
