Deals of the Week: Sinking Ship, Moonbug, CAKE

European broadcasters sign up for more Total Dramarama, Heroes of Goo Jit Zu expands beyond toys, and Little Baby Bum takes to the stage.

Kartoon Channel!

Genius Brands International’s OTT platform has picked up 240 hours of content from Nelvana, WildBrain and ABC Australia.

Kartoon Channel! has licensed animated series Super Mario Bros (13 x 30 minutes), Adventures of Paddington Bear (13 x 30 minutes), Trollz (27 x 30 minutes), Madeline (13 x 30 minutes) and Liberty Kids (40 x 30 minutes) from WildBrain.

Nelvana programming joining the platform includes Donkey Kong Country (39 x 22 minutes), a handful of movie specials from the Franklin brand, and the The Santa Clause Brothers special.

And Kartoon also picked up The Wiggles World series (26 x 11 minutes) and the Wiggle Pop special (75 minutes) from ABC Australia.

CAKE 

The London-based distributor has signed new broadcast deals for Fresh TV’s Total Dramarama (pictured) animated comedy for six to 11s. WarnerMedia has picked up seasons two and three (1o4 x 11 minutes) to air in Benelux, Eastern Europe, APAC and Latin America. Pop TV (UK), K2 and DeAKids (Italy) and Super 3 (Spain) have also acquired seasons two and three for their regions. And Canal+ (France) and ABC Australia opted for just the second season (52 x 11 minutes).

Total Dramarama follows a group of troublesome toddlers who get into all manner of comedic situations. Season three (52 x 11 minutes) was ordered in July 2020 and will premiere on Cartoon Network US and Teletoon (Canada) later this year.

Moonbug Entertainment

The London-based prodco has teamed up with Round Room Live to create a Little Baby Bum live show, which will tour across North America starting this fall. Little Baby Bum Live! Twinkle’s Talent Show features characters from the brand singing, dancing and playing different games in a 60-minute stage performance. Tickets are scheduled to go on sale in August.

This is the second live show Round Room has created with Moonbug as part of a first-look deal between the two companies, and it follows on the heels of a Blippi experience.

Moose Toys 

The LA-based toyco has tapped The Licensing Shop to globally represent its Heroes of Goo Jit Zu brand of squishy, goo-filled action figures.

The agency is tasked with expanding the brand beyond toys for the first time with publishing, apparel, confectionery, sleepwear and accessories. The program builds on the brand’s content play—a series of 12-minute shorts are available on YouTube, and toys associated with these videos will roll out in the fall.

Sinking Ship

Toronto-based Sinking Ship Entertainment has inked international broadcast deals for five of its series.

Netflix is re-upping Odd Squad (114 x 22 minutes) for India and German-speaking Europe. Hop! (Israel) has picked up season three; Coupang (South Korea) bought seasons one and two; and CBBC (UK) and SVT (Sweden) have renewed seasons one and two, respectively. This comedy series revolves around kid agents who solve wacky problems with math and science.

SVT and NRK (Norway) have picked up Annedroids, a 52 x 22-minute series starring a budding scientist and her friends, who make robots to help solve problems. SVT also picked up season two of sci-fi adventure Endlings (12 x 22 minutes), about a group of kids who protect nearly extinct animals from evil forces.

Coupang and Astro (Malaysia and Brunei) have picked up seasons one and two of mixed-media series Dino Dana (52 x 22 minutes), with Israel’s Hop! acquiring season four (13 x 22 minutes).

And finally, Canadian pubcaster CBC has reupped Chirp (52 x 11 minutes), an animated series for preschoolers about best friends who use their imagination to get them into—and out of—exciting adventures.
