Hong Kong-based private equity firm NewQuest Capital Partners has acquired a majority interest in Indian prodco Cosmos-Maya from investment platform Emerald Media. The exact terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Anish Mehta will stay on as CEO of the prodco, and there will be no major structural changes to the makeup of the teams, Kidscreen confirmed.

This deal comes as the animation studio continues to expand with new partners. Disney India recently picked up Cosmos-Maya’s medical adventure series Dr. Tenali Rama HMKD (pictured), and snapped up the linear rights to its shows Guddu, Bapu and Gadget Guru Ganesha.

WarnerMedia, meanwhile, picked up Cosmos-Maya’s comedy Dabangg for Cartoon Network, and last year greenlit the prodco’s comedies Titoo and Lambuji Tinguji.

Cosmos-Maya’s portfolio features more than 20 IPs, including Motu Patlu and Selfie with Bajrangi.
