Genius Brands International has hired former DreamWorks exec Kerry Phelan to serve as its EVP and general manager of global franchise management.
Phelan starts in her newly created role today, focusing on new and existing consumer products business for GBI’s expanding slate of kids brands, including Stan Lee’s Superhero Kindergarten, Shaq’s Garage, Stan Lee Universe and Rainbow Rangers. She will also cultivate L&M opportunities for shows that are in development at the company.
Phelan reports to chairman and CEO Andy Heyward and recently appointed president of global content sales, marketing and consumer products Harold Chizick. She most recently served as president of global franchise management at Lionsgate Entertainment, working on the studio’s popular Hunger Games and Twilight IPs. Prior to that, she held global licensing executive positions at DreamWorks Animation, Pixar Animation Studios and Lucasfilm, building out franchises such as How to Train Your Dragon, Cars and Star Wars.
