Canada’s Vancouver Animation School (VANAS) is opening a new animation program in Brazil this September.
Ahead of the launch, VANAS will host a free professional animation workshop for aspiring artists in the region, broadcasting it live over Zoom on July 31 and September 4. These classes will cover concept art and 3D animation.
VANAS’s first fall term in Brazil starts on September 27, with application deadlines on August 1 and September 1. The two-year course is available to Brazilian citizens who are able to take the program online. In addition to animation courses, VANAS also offers classes in visual effects and video games towards earning vocational certificates, diplomas and university pathways.
The school’s expansion into Brazil comes as the region’s content ecosystem continues to grow. Disney+ recently teamed up with Brazilian streamer Globoplay to make both content libraries available as part of a bundle deal. Brazilian kidsnet Gloob, meanwhile, has a longstanding partnership with LA toon house ZAG and Paris-based Method Animation to co-produce smash-hit animated series Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir.
Recent data from Parrot Analytics shows that demand for locally made programming continues to grow in Latin America, with shows like Brazilian studio Bromelia’s preschool series Galinha Pintadinha topping kids’ watch lists.
