Deals of the Week: Netflix, Jetpack, Kartoon

Sunnyside Billy attracts a broadcaster, Kartoon Channel! grows its preschool offering, and Ada Twist, Scientist heads to shelves.

Clan TVE

The Spanish broadcaster has partnered with Imira Entertainment, a Toonz Media Group subsidiary, to co-produce 2D-animated series Sunnyside Billy (pictured). Aimed at kids ages seven and up, this 52 x 11-minuter is about an egg on a mission to protect his friend from a dangerous threat. Toonz CEO P. Jayakumar and Imira CEO Carlos Biern are executive producers on the show, which will be delivered in Q1 2023.

Kartoon Channel

Genius Brands International has picked up content from three producers for its OTT platform. eOne/Hasbro titles bound for the streamer include Ricky Zoom (29 x 11 minutes); Peppa Pig (50 x two-minute shorts and various episodes of the series); Ben and Holly Little’s Kingdom season two (26 x 11 minutes); My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, My Little Pony: Equestria Girls and My Little Equestria‘s “Rainbow Rocks” special; and Transformers Rescue Bots seasons two and four (52 x 22 minutes).

Zodiak Kids closed a deal with GBI for animated series Lilybuds (52 x 11 minutes), Horrid Henry (250 x 11 minutes), Magiki (52 x 11 minutes), Waybuloo (150 x 19 minutes), Rekkit Rabbit (104 x 13 minutes) and Little Princess (100 x 11 minutes).

And finally, GBI has acquired music-driven live-action series The Wiggles’ World (26 x 11 minutes) from ABC Australia.

Jetpack Distribution 

Malaysian studio Monsta has tapped Jetpack as the global distributor (excluding Asia) for its 3D-animated comedy-adventure series Mechamoto. Aimed at kids ages six and up, the 26 x 22-minute show is about a boy embroiled in a fight with evil robots who discovers he has the power to turn any object into a high-tech device.

Cartoon Network will premiere Mechamoto this December across Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea, followed by Japan in March 2022.

PlayMonster

The toyco is heading to a galaxy far, far away in a new deal with Lucasfilm for Star Wars-themed products that will launch worldwide in 2022.

PlayMonster brands getting the Star Wars treatment include Koosh (squishy balls), Latchkits (plush), Spirograph (art design kits) and Colorforms (stickers). Koosh and Spirograph are under license from Hasbro.

Netflix

Eight new licensees are have signed onto Netflix’s consumer products program for Ada Twist, Scientist (40 x 12 minutes), an animated educational series for preschoolers launching on September 28.

Abrams (books), Just Play (dolls), West Elm Kids (home décor), Fifth Sun (apparel), Puzzle Huddle (puzzles), UNWRP (gift wrap), Folkus (notebooks) and My What Bos (STEM-focused activity box) are all producing ranges that will hit retail starting this month and carrying into 2022. Netflix has also inked a deal with Macy’s to fly an Ada Twist balloon to during the 2021 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on November 25.

Produced by Laughing Wild, Higher Ground and Wonder Worldwide, Ada Twist Scientist stars a curious young girl who learns about scientific concepts with her friends.
