Lion Forge, bulbKIDZ partner on new series

Inspired by classic kids shows like Dexter's Laboratory and Rugrats, Alien Baby Sitters is part of a larger bulbKIDZ strategy to co-produce more animated content.

Canadian prodco bulbKIDZ and Lion Forge Animation are teaming up  to co-produce a new 2D-animated series called Alien Baby Sitters.

Aimed at kids ages six to 11, the concept revolves around three tween BFFs who use standard-issue babysitting skills and the unique abilities of their four alien charges to protect their small town from a group of mad scientists. The 26 x 22-minute series is currently in development and on track to launch in spring 2023.

bulbKIDZ co-founder and EVP of creative development and global operations Kiersten Halstead describes Alien Baby Sitters as a mashup of Rugrats meets Power Puff Girls, with a hint of Dexter’s Laboratory. She adds that it taps into the global appeal of those classic successes (which lacked representation during their heydays) and modernizes them to be relevant in today’s landscape.

Working with Kaaren Lee Brown (Super Monsters, S.M.A.S.H!, Tarzan and Jane, Roswell Conspiracies: Aliens, Myths & Legends) and Robert Skir (GoGoBus & Team S.T.E.A.M., Team S.T.E.A.M. Beyond!, X-Men), the Toronto-based prodco sees this project as part of a larger strategy to get involved in more animated shows as a co-producer.

Based in St. Louis, Lion Forge is best known for its 2019 Oscar-winning short film Hair Love, which was given a full series order from streamer HBO Max in 2020. Since then, the studio has set up a number of new content partnerships, including a deal to develop a show with BRON, a first-look agreement with Imagine Kids & Family, and a collaboration with Studio Moggozi.
