ViacomCBS & NENT partner on Pluto TV

The AVOD will merge with Viafree in Sweden, Denmark and Norway next year, offering local content and global programming from the ViacomCBS library.

ViacomCBS Networks International and Nordic Entertainment Group (NENT) are teaming up to launch ad-supported streaming platform Pluto TV across Sweden, Denmark and Norway in 2022. The partnership combines ViacomCBS’s free AVOD channel with NENT’s pan-Nordic streaming service Viafree.

Pluto TV will hit the market featuring international and local content from both companies’ catalogues, including Viafree series like Paradise and Luxury Trap, and tween- and teen-focused shows such as The Hills and Awkward (pictured) from ViacomCBS. Programming from the partners and multiple third parties will be packaged in themed channels like Pluto TV Movie, Pluto TV Comedy and Pluto TV History.

Following the launch, Viafree is to be phased out as a standalone platform. The partnership will also see NENT serve as Pluto TV’s lead advertising sales partner in these markets.

NENT is gearing up to expand its subscription streaming service Viaplay into five new markets over the next two years, starting with the UK in 2022, and then Canada, Germany, Austria and Switzerland in 2023. Viaplay will be available in these territories as a direct-to-consumer offering, as well as through partnerships with local distributors.
