Hugh Baldwin to exit Nick Australia

As a result of an ongoing ViacomCBS merger and the launch of Paramount+ in Australia, the long-time director is set to depart at the end of the year.

After 15 years at Nickelodeon Australia, Hugh Baldwin is set to leave the ViacomCBS-owned kidsnet at the end of the year.

In a statement to Kidscreen, he attributed the departure to the ongoing ViacomCBS merger and the successful launch of Paramount+ in the region. “The last couple of years, in particular, have been really great for me; it has been a fulfilling period, but the sands are shifting so it’s time for a change.”

Baldwin will stay on at the company to help during a transition period before making a “fresh start” in 2022; but he had no information to share at press time about the next chapter of his career.

Baldwin currently serves as senior director of programming for Nickelodeon Australia and Network 10’s new free-to-air kids channel 10 Shake Kids, overseeing programming and commissioning. His remit also includes ViacomCBS brands MTV, Comedy Central and Spike.

He joined Nick Australia in 2006 as digital media director, and was subsequently promoted to director of television and multiplatform content, and then senior director of content and audience engagement. During his tenure, Baldwin has worked on a wide range of popular kids shows, including Ready Set DanceSlime Cup and Crash the Bash.

Prior to acquiring Viacom in December 2019, CBS bought Australia’s Network 10 in what was its first major international acquisition. Network 10 then launched 10 Shake Kids—its first dedicated free-to-air kids channel—in September last year. Further changes saw new ViacomCBS streamer Paramount+ (formerly CBS All Access) launch in Australia this past August.
