Dandelooo to adapt Gaston’s Emotions

The books about a unicorn with a magical color-changing mane have sold more than 900,000 copies in France alone, and are now headed to the small screen.

French production and distribution company Dandelooo has picked up the rights to adapt and distributre children’s books Gaston’s Emotions into an animated TV show.

Currently in development, the books will be turned into a preschool series, teaching children how to manage their emotions effectively. It will follow a young unicorn with a magical rainbow-colored mane that changes color when he feels strong emotions such as anger or sadness. No other information about the series was available at press time.

The original four-book series was written by Aurélie Chien Chow Chine, a Paris born illustrator and animator who has worked on a number of cartoon series and movies. Gaston’s Emotions was published by French publisher Hachette Enfants in 2018, and has sold more than 900,000 copies in France alone, and been translated into 24 other languages.

Recently, Dandelooo has expanded it preschool slate with new deals for The Treehouse Stories in North and South America. The 103 x seven-minute show has been sold to HITN (US), TFO (French-speaking Canada), TVN (Chile) and Pakapaka (Argentina).
