January 10, 2022

WarnerMedia has appointed Jason Monteiro as general manager of HBO Max Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Effective today, he is responsible for the company’s direct-to-consumer business in these territories and will oversee content experience, subscriber management, digital partnerships and data analytics.

Based in Singapore, Monteiro is currently heading up the HBO GO streaming service there, and HBO Max will eventually expand into the region as well.

Monteiro is temporarily reporting to Johannes Larcher, head of HBO Max International, until a new managing director for the broader INSEAK region (India, Southeast Asia and Korea) is appointed. He joins WarnerMedia from Arabic streaming platform Shahid, where he served as director of AVOD, but he has also done stints at  iflix and Vodafone.

HBO Max launched Stateside in May 2020 and began rolling out internationally last year.
