Lion Forge Animation has partnered with recording studio Tuff Gong Collective and Universal Music Group to develop an animated series based on a new picture book from Cedella Marley, the daughter of iconic reggae singer Bob Marley.

Marley and the Family Band was published by Random House Children’s Books on February 1, and it will serve as the inspiration for the toon, along with Marley’s experiences growing up with her famous father.

The untitled series, which is currently in early development, follows along as its main character plans a neighborhood concert in order to help her siblings make friends after her family moves to the US from Jamaica. It will be directed by Lion Forge’s executive creative director Saxton Moore, but no additional information about the project is available at this time.

Lion Forge recently teamed up with Detroit-based prodco Folktellers Studios to develop an animated series based on Josef Bastian’s fantasy book Excerpts from an Unknown Guidebook. And last year, the studio entered into a partnership with Canada’s BRON Digital to work on animated series Heiress, which is still in development.
