Apple TV+ is adding to its kids and family lineup with a new 2D-animated kids series from DreamWorks Animation, Pinecone & Pony (pictured) set to premiere on Friday, April 8.
Based on the book with the same name by Canadian author and comic-book creator Kate Beaton, Pinecone & Pony is an eight x 30-minute animated comedy for kids and families about a young girl named Pinecone who sets out to become a warrior. With her Pony best friend at her side, she discovers that warriors can come in all sorts of shapes and sizes.
The six- to 11-skewing series is produced by DreamWorks Animation and Toronto-based prodco First Generation Films (The Artists: The Pioneers Behind the Pixels), with Stephanie Kaliner executive as producer and showrunner. Beaton, Christina Piovesan and Mackenzie Lush are attached as executive producers.
Apple TV+ has been increasing its roster of original films and series for kids and families, recently adding El Deafo, Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock and Harriet the Spy from The Jim Henson Company, and Hello, Jack! The Kindness Show co-created by actor Jack McBrayer (30 Rock) and writer Angela C. Santomero (Blue’s Clues).
Meanwhile DreamWorks Animation has been working on two new CG-animated preschool series: Not Quite Narwhal and Dew Drop Diaries, both slated to launch on Netflix in 2023. Not Quite Narwhal is an adaptation of a book by Jessie Sima aimed at kids three to seven, while Dew Drop Diaries follows city-dwelling fairies that help humans with tasks like putting falling out teeth under the pillows of kids.
