Greek goddesses are bringing a whole lot of high school drama to CBBC, which has bought Girls of Olympus from The Animation Band and RAI in a deal brokered by distributor Serious Kids. The 2D-animated tween series ( 26 x 26 minutes) will start airing on the Brit pubcaster’s linear channel and BBC iPlayer this summer.

Targeting eight- to 14-year-olds, Girls of Olympus premiered on RAI Gulp in Italy last year and is based on a series of books penned by author Elena Kedros. The TV show tells the story of three teen girls who discover they have the same supernatural talents as Greek goddesses. They embark on a mission to defeat Ares, the god of war—which requires striking the right balance between battling mythological creatures and keeping up their grades.

According to Serious Kids, Girls of Olympus is attracting double the average number of viewers in its time slots on RAI Gulp, where it airs three times a day. Its ratings are highest with the eight to 14 demographic, tilting 60% toward girls.

Greek heroes seem to be doing alright in the market right now. Earlier this month, streaming service Sensical picked up PRX’s Live from Mount Olympus, a kids podcast that follows Perseus (son of gods Zeus and Danaë) as he sets out on a quest to save his mother.
