41 Entertainment
Building on existing broadcast and streaming partnerships with HBO Max, Discovery Family Channel and Discovery Familia in the US, Connecticut-based studio 41 Entertainment has lined up several new international sales for its upcoming CG-animated series S.M.A.S.H!.
Discovery Kids Latin America, Discovery TV Frisbee (Italy) and Mango TV (China) have all picked up exclusive rights in their territories, and will join Super RTL (Germany), Knowledge Network (Canada), HOP! (Israel), Sanoma Media/Nelonen Media (Finland), TV2 (Hungary), MBC (Middle East) and HKTVE (Hong Kong) in airing the show beyond its domestic borders.
One Animation
Oddbods is one of four series that Singapore’s One Animation has sold this week to VOD and linear channels in global territories. Netflix picked up the show’s third season for an April rollout in multiple territories; France’s TFOU MAX has acquired season two; and Italian train operator Trenitalia purchased on-board entertainment rights to shorts derived from the series. Oddbods is also heading to Korean broadcasters EBS and Daekyo, VIDIO in Indonesia and Canal+ in Myanmar.
Distributor Bomanbridge Media has inked deals for three other One Animation series to boot, moving season one of Insectibles to Radio Television in Brunei and Indonesia’s Mola TV; Antiks to Mediacorp in Singapore; and renewing a license for seasons one and two of Rob the Robot with France’s Canal+.
Glowberry
A bit of good news for the Ukrainian creators of Brave Bunnies, who have locked in a deal with WarnerMedia to air the 2D-animated series in 20 additional territories across Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand. Brave Bunnies will start airing across this region in mid-2022 on preschool block Cartoonito, which just rolled out in Southeast Asia on March 28. And HBO GO will be its streaming home in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand starting in July.
Season two was in production when the Russian invasion of Ukraine halted all work, according to the show’s creative producer. And since then, its crew members have either fled the country or are working as volunteers to support refugees and the war effort.
Skydance
Netflix has ordered a reimagining of the Spy Kids film franchise from Skydance Media, tapping Spyglass Media and Robert Rodriguez (creator/director of the original films) to be involved. Rodriguez will write, direct and produce the new live-action film that introduces the world to a different spy family than the one featured previously. This will be the first new entertainment project for the franchise since 2011 pic Spy Kids: All The Time In The World, and it’s the second Netflix family film project for Rodriguez, following 2020’s We Can Be Heroes.
TeamTO
Expanding on an existing deal for Jade Armor (pictured) (26 x 22 minutes) in the US, WarnerMedia Kids & Family has now also bought the EMEA rights from French animation studio TeamTO. The series centers around Lan Jun, a teenager learning the ancient secrets of her family, and it will premiere later this year on HBO Max and Cartoon Network.
