Disney Junior has promoted original programming manager Bryan O’Connell to director of development.
He will now oversee multiple shows and original movies for the preschool channel, as well as working with Disney’s franchise team to expand properties into consumer products programs and live experiences.
Based in LA, O’Connell reports to Kim Berglund, VP of development for Disney Junior. He started in his new role this week, and is currently working on unannounced projects, according to a Disney spokesperson.
With five years under his belt at Disney, O’Connell has worked in creative roles including a senior story coordinator stint on Walt Disney Animation Studios’ 2021 film Raya and the Last Dragon.
Before joining the company, he was a creative coordinator at Silvergate Media, where he developed and assessed pitch materials for the prodco’s projects, and worked on the development and production of Nick Jr.’s Sunny Day. Prior to that, he held a series of production positions at NBCUniversal, Illumination, DreamWorks and Sesame Workshop.
Disney has been busy restructuring its content teams, promoting Claire McCabe to serve as VP of the brand-new unscripted Brand Partnerships and Kids unit yesterday. Meghan de Boer was also upped to join McCabe’s team as executive director. And on the preschool side of things, Chris Hutchison took on a new role earlier this month as VP of production at Disney Branded Television, where he’ll oversee production management for Disney Junior.
