London’s WildBrain CPLG has picked up worldwide licensing rights to three well-established brands from the HarperCollins Productions stable—Carmen Sandiego, The Oregon Trail and Pretzel and the Puppies.
The agency plans to build a consumer products program for each property, with a focus on apparel, electronics, toys, back-to-school, promotions and location-based experiences.
Its Carmen Sandiego licensing and merchandising rights cover the four-season animated series (pictured) that WildBrain and HarperCollins Productions made for Netflix, and also an upcoming movie in development for the streamer. The brand revolves around the world’s greatest thief working to stop a crime organization from taking over the world.
Legacy IP Pretzel and the Puppies similarly expanded into the streaming space earlier this year with the launch of a same-name CG-animated preschool series on Apple TV+. Based on a book series from Curious George creators Margret and H.A. Rey that kicked off in the 1940s, the brand centers around a family of dogs that learn how to work together and solve problems.
Classic gaming franchise The Oregon Trail, meanwhile, caught Wildbrain CPLG’s attention when it found new life on Apple’s video game streaming service Apple Arcade last year. The educational title sees players fill a caravan with supplies and make a challenging journey across the US. With HarperCollins Productions publishing program and new media in development, now is the time for an expanded licensing program, according to CPLG.
