London-based Jetpack Distribution has acquired global rights outside of the UK to live-action dramedy series Biff and Chip.

Produced by BBC Studios’ Kids & Family Productions division, the 25 x 11-minute show premiered last fall on CBeebies, and two more seasons are currently in production. It targets a co-viewing audience of four- to six-year-olds and their caregivers.

Biff and Chip is based on a book series created by Roderick Hunt and Alex Brychta that has generated more than 800 titles since launching in 1986. Oxford University Press imprint Oxford Reading Tree publishes the Biff, Chip and Kipper range of phonics-based learning books, which are used for reading instruction in several UK schools.

The brand’s inclusion in school curricula means it has household-name status in its home territory and several other English-speaking countries. But Jetpack describes the TV series as “pure entertainment” based primarily on the characters and the values they represent.

Biff and Chip joins two other recent animated pick-ups in Jetpack’s preschool catalogue—Alice’s Diary (52 x four minutes) and Wussywat the Clumsy Cat (52 x five minutes), which were both acquired earlier this year.
