A new round of Nickelodeon’s Intergalactic Shorts Program has just launched, and the kidcaster is looking for animated short series concepts from international artists, writers and directors. This time around, Nick is putting a focus on representation and character-driven comedies for preschoolers, six to 11s and families.
The program puts a limited number of concepts into production as one-off shorts, and some of these are then selected for full series orders. Rock, Paper, Scissors, the first project to be greenlit from the inaugural round of submissions in 2019, will debut this week at Annecy.
This 2D-animated comedy was created by Kyle Stegina and Josh Lehrman and centers around a trio of mismatched roommates. Six other projects from the 2019 program are also in production, but details have not been released yet.
Daniel Wineman (VP of animation development) and Chris Rose (VP of production and development for global kids and family) will oversee this year’s incubator.
