Nordic broadcasters NRK (Norway), YLE (Finland) and Icelandic streamer Siminn have collectively greenlit a second season of 2D-animated preschool series Tulipop Tales from Reykjavík-based prodco Tulipop and distributor Serious Kids in the UK. NRK and YLE have also snapped up season one.

Inspired by Icelandic folklore and set in a magical island forest where nothing is as it seems, the IP features a diverse mix of characters including a curious mushroom girl, a naive monster and an intelligent tree.

Production is already underway on the new 13 x seven-minute eps, which are expected to start airing early next year. Spain’s Ánima Estudios and Birdland Animation are co-producing with Tulipop again, and the second season is being financed by the Icelandic Film Centre, a group of private investors and tax rebates from Iceland and the Canary Islands.

Tulipop Tales season one debuted on Siminn in February and was backed by Nordisk Film & TV Fond. The show is based on a merch-driven lifestyle brand created by illustrator Signý Kolbeinsdóttir in 2010. It moved to YouTube in 2017 and premiered on TV last year.
