Kilburn Live is partnering with Finland-based game developer Rovio Entertainment to develop a new interactive stage show based on its Angry Birds mobile game, which has been downloaded more than five billion times, according to a press release.

Angry Birds Live: The Slingshot Adventure will feature several characters from the Angry Birds CG-animated feature films, including Red, Silver and Leonard, who embark on a comedy-filled misadventure in a new world. The show is aiming for an all-ages audience and will begin touring across North America in 2023. Veteran Hollywood screenwriting duo James Johnston and Bennett Yellin (Dumb and DumberStuck on You) are on board as writers.

Kilburn is also planning to integrate some of the Angry Birds gameplay mechanics into the show, allowing audience members to impact the story outcome by catapulting objects onto the stage.

Live events are making a major return this year as the effects of the pandemic begin to subside. For example, Moonbug Entertainment is taking its flagship preschool property CoComelon on a 65-city tour across North America starting on September 16. CoComelon LIVE! JJ’s Journey is a Broadway-style musical produced and promoted globally by New York-based EMC Presents. It will feature more than 20 songs, including new originals and hit tunes from the CG-animated series.

Children’s entertainment group The Wiggles are also appearing on 23 stages across Canada in their first new tour in three years. The Wiggles Big Show! Tour will start in New Brunswick on September 28 and finish in British Columbia on October 31.
