Personalized kids book publisher Wonderbly has just acquired its main competitor The Book of Everyone.
Based in London and Barcelona, The Book of Everyone creates 50-page personalized books for its customers using their name and date of birth. Founded in 2014 by creative directors Jonny Biggins, Jason Bramley and Steve Hanson, it has sold more than 700,000 bespoke books in 175 countries to date. The service will migrate to Wonderbly’s website sometime in 2023.
This acquisition is a great move by Wonderbly, which creates personalized story books aimed at kids in the age groups of zero to three, three to six and seven-plus. Each title incorporates the name of the child, immersing them into the story as a character.
This year, the company is also preparing to launch 12 original non-personalized children’s books in English, with 43 language translations planned.
The customized gifting market in the US has been pegged to grow by US$2 billion between 2020 and 2025, according to a March 2022 report from research company Technavio that underlines a growing demand for gifts with a personal touch.
In 2019, Wonderbly launched a self-publishing platform to work with brands seeking to get in on the personalized book action. Its first deal was inked with Wizarding World Digital, a joint-venture between Warner Bros. and Pottermore.
Since launching in 2013, Wonderbly has sold more than eight million books globally. Last year, it won the British Book Award for Children’s Publisher of the Year.
