LA-based podcast studio PopCult has partnered with Disney Music Group on a new Disney Hits Podcast for kids and families.

The 58-episode project is built to be a bite-sized complement to Disney’s soundtrack playlist, which is available on services like Spotify and Apple Music. Each episode clocks in at under five minutes, featuring singers, composers and songwriters behind massive Disney hits from films such as Frozen, Encanto and The Lion King.

Hosted by Laya DeLeon Hayes (Doc McStuffins), it’s designed to serve as a co-listening companion product to flagship playlist Disney Hits, which currently has more than four million likes on Spotify. Seven eps (including one headlined by Lin-Manuel Miranda) are available now on all podcast platforms, and upcoming segments will showcase Jodi Benson, Vanessa Williams and Randy Newman as guests.

For PopCult, the deal with Disney gives it access to a catalogue of popular tunes and a gateway for reaching kids and families. Disney Hits Podcast also plays into the audio-first studio’s goal of creating content that bridges the music with podcast markets, according to strategy and marketing lead Lars Murray in a release.

Companies such as Netflix, HappyNest and Mattel (American Girl) have all made significant investments in kids podcasts this year, looking to use their brand power to break into the audio entertainment space and engage young listeners.
