Disney has promoted streaming operations EVP Alisa Bowen to president of Disney+ as it works to expand its content offering and prepare for the launch of its ad tier later this year.
Bowen has five years at Disney under her belt and has held top positions in its digital media, SVOD and streaming divisions. She has been heading up global business operations for the media company’s streamers, including DIsney+ since it launched in 2019.
In her new role, Bowen will continue to oversee the streamer, which is available in 154 markets and had 152.1 million subscribers as of July 2022. All Disney+ regional leaders worldwide will report to Bowen, and who reports to Michael Paull, president of DTC for Disney Media Entertainment & Distribution.
Before joining Disney, Bowen was chief technology officer at News Corp Australia, where she led the development of its digital products and platforms. And prior to that, she worked at Dow Jones (chief product officer) and Reuters Media (SVP and head of business operations).
Disney+ has a large catalogue of kids and family content that it continues to add to in order to come out on top in the streaming wars. Most recently, the platform acquired a significant package of Moonbug programming in August, and greenlit new series Family Reboot in May.
New KidsKnowBest data from earlier this month indicates that Disney+ is currently the second most popular streaming platform among US and UK families, with Netflix holding onto its number-one status.
