The spotlight will be shining bright on companies from the UK and LatAm at this year’s International Emmy Awards, which is gearing up to single out the best kids programming in categories spanning animation, live action and non-fiction entertainment on November 21.
Continuing a trend from last year, the UK is the only country to earn multiple kids category nominations from The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, which hosts the awards. Aardman/Netflix seasonal special Shaun the Sheep: Flight Before Christmas is shortlisted in the Animation category, and the BBC’s Newsround Special—Let’s Talk About Periods received a nod in Factual & Entertainment.
LatAm countries also fared well, with Silverwolf Studios’ 2D-animated adventure title Dapinty, A Musicolor Adventure (pictured) representing Colombia in the Animation category; Latin American Dreams vying for a win for Chile in Factual & Entertainment; and Anonymously Yours, a co-pro from Netflix and Mexico’s Woo Films, on the Live Action shortlist.
Japan, France, the Netherlands, Norway, South Africa, Australia and Singapore are also represented among the 12 shortlisted kids entries. Winners will be announced during the 50th International Emmy Awards gala, which is being held in New York this year, after several years for several years as part of MIP Junior in Cannes, France.
