Netflix has bought seasons two, three and four of the preschool series Molang from French animation studio Millimages. The SVOD, which had already acquired the first season in 2019, will launch the next three worldwide on November 1.
With a total of five seasons so far, Molang (200 x three minutes) stars a rabbit—who is gender-neutral with no nationality—and a shy chick who sometimes needs help seeing the bright side of life. Together they deal with everyday problems, focusing on kindness, empathy and inclusion.
French author and director Marie-Caroline Villand (Watch My Chops) created the series, which is inspired by original drawings by Korean illustrator Hye Ji Yoon.
French broadcaster Canal+ is a co-producer and launched the series in 2015. Since then, broadcasters including Disney LatAm, Cartoonito (UK), VRT (Belgium) and Pluto TV (US) have picked it up. Millimages has also inked more than 15 licensing deals for the property—the latest with Mexican stationery licensee Dipak, which creates calendars.
