The Diary of a Wimpy Kid franchise is breaking into the world of licensing for the first time with a first batch of deals for board games, puzzles and apparel.
Brand owner Wimpy Kid has partnered with Go! Toys and Games in Texas and LA-based USAopoly to develop branded board games and puzzles, and Michigan’s Trevco will release a line of Wimpy Kid apparel through its e-commerce site.
The first wave of products will hit retailers in North America later this fall, ahead of the next CG-animated film’s December 2 drop on Disney+. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules is a co-production between Disney and Canada’s Bardel Entertainment.
Wimpy Kid global brand manager Vanessa Jedrej says the company plans to explore more licensed product categories in the near future, including room decor, party goods and stationery.
Author and illustrator Jeff Kinney published the first Diary of a Wimpy Kid book in 2007. The series now comprises 17 titles, which have sold more than 275 million copies worldwide.
