GWR Studios—the in-house production arm of Guinness World Records—has signed its first-ever development deal, partnering with bite-size content streamer WeShort.
Under the deal, the newly launched division will create an original series (to be determined) to stream exclusively on WeShort in 2023.
WeShort has also purchased non-exclusive rights to Guinness World Records Shorts (10 x 10 minutes), set to debut on the platform next month. The live-action series centers on people trying to set interesting world records, including athlete Zion Clarke (fastest 20m walk on hands) and social media personality Harnaam Kaur (pictured, youngest female with a full beard).
GWR Studios presented the series to buyers at MIPCOM last month alongside: Best of the Best (22 x 30 minutes) and Guinness World Records: Gone Viral (20 x 30 minutes).
Last week, WeShort closed a US$1 million funding round led by Rome-based prodco Minerva Pictures. The SVOD was launched last year and is available across TV, smartphone and web devices in more than 100 countries.
WeShort’s catalogue offers more than 1,000 shorts, including content made for kids and families such as Wakan (2017). The five-minute short was created by students at Paris-based animation/VFX school ISART Digital.
