Sony Pictures Television has signed a multi-title deal to produce live-action series based on Marvel characters for Amazon.

The first project in the works is Silk: Spider Society about female superhero Cindy Moon (Silk), who gains her powers after being bitten by the same spider as Peter Parker (Spider-Man). The series will launch on Amazon’s linear channel MGM+ (formerly Epix) in the US first, and then roll out worldwide on Prime Video.

Created by writer Dan Slott and artist Humberto Ramos, the Korean-American character made her first appearance in the Marvel comics in 2014. Later, she popped up on the big screen in Marvel Studios’ live-action films Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) and Avengers: Infinity War (2018). This new series will explore her superhero origin story, tagging along as she searches for her missing family.

Angela Kang (The Walking Dead) is showrunning, with executive producers Amy Pascal, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse). Pascal brings a lot of spidey sense to the project, having headed up both animated and live-action adaptations featuring Marvel’s most famous web slinger. She co-produced the latest live-action Spider-Man film trilogy (2017-2021) with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. And her upcoming work includes producing Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (the sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse), which swings into theaters in June 2023.
