Toronto-based WildBrain has hired two new execs for its APAC distribution team, to meet a growing demand for kids and family content in the region.
Warner Bros. Discovery alum Jason Soh has joined as the company’s first-ever APAC global sales and channel director. Based in Singapore, he now heads up distribution sales outside of China, reporting to VP of global sales and rights strategy Caroline Tyre. Soh is coming off a three-year stint as VP of affiliate and B2B distribution at WBD.
WildBrain has also hired Max Tang to spearhead content sales in China as its new senior manager of content partnerships. Tang will operate out of WildBrain’s Shanghai office and report to regional managing director Jianbo Wei. He previously worked in sales at several Chinese tech companies, including VR headset manufacturer HTC, smart TV manufacturer Whaley and IPTV service provider BesTV.
WildBrain CEO Eric Ellenborgen is set to speak on December 7 at Asia TV Forum, where he’ll outline the company’s plans for growth in the region. Its recent distribution track record there is strong, with sales to Disney Junior in Japan for the first four seasons of 2D-animated series Carmen Sandiego (pictured), along with season one of CG-animated mystery series Inspector Gadget and the first two seasons of 2D-animated adventure series Denis and Me.
Meanwhile, Warner Bros Discovery has bought seasons one and two of WildBrain’s live-action adaptation of Malory Towers for its APAC streamer HBO GO. And China’s Youku has renewed its rights to five seasons of live-action preschool series In the Night Garden, as well as picking up six new CG-animated In the Night Garden: Zinkyzzzonk specials.
