Veteran BBC Studios producer Annette Williams has departed the pubcaster after working at the Beeb for more than three decades.

Most recently, Williams was the genre lead for factual formats, overseeing all unscripted content produced in its Salford and Glasgow locations, including kids and families. Programs produced during her time include Britain’s Best Young Artist, Grace’s Amazing Machines and long-running educational program Blue Peter.

Her departure was announced yesterday, which was also her last day, on LinkedIn.

“Annette leaves with our eternal gratitude for a lifetime of outstanding service and the knowledge that her broad portfolio of work has enriched the lives of so many generations of children over the years and will continue to do so for a very long time,” said Cecilia Persson, managing director of kids and family at BBC Studios, in a LinkedIn post.

Williams plans to stay in the TV industry as a freelancer, according to Persson.

There are a lot of new faces on the BBC Studios kids team this year, amid a broader restructure on both the commercial and broadcast sides of the business. Most recently, BBC Studios hired former Netflix exec Edward Barnieh as VP of development, and upped Alexandra McGrail to head of commercial, both last month.

Back in August, BBC unveiled its plans to combine its kids teams, projects and budgets under one division. Other big-name BBC kids execs to depart this year include preschool commissioner Michael Towner (he also had 30 years at the pubcaster) and BBC Studios’ head of kids and family productions Helen Bullough.

All of this is happening in the wake of the broadcaster’s new digital-first strategy. Announced in May, the plan will roll out in multiple phases, and include the closure of CBBC’s linear channel. The shift to digital is expected to see around 1,000 jobs eliminated within the BBC’s publicly funded divisions.
