Finland’s YLE and Sky in the UK have renewed Helsinki-based Gutsy Animations’ flagship series Moominvalley for a fourth season.
Viaplay Group has also just joined the team behind this CG-animated series based on a series of books and comics by writer/illustrator Tove Jansson and her brother Lars. The Swedish mediaco will co-produce the fourth season (13 x 22 minutes) and air the entire series (52 x 22 minutes in total) on its Nordic streamer in territories including in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Poland and the Netherlands.
Season four is set to deliver in Q4 2024, and Nigel Davies (Shaun the Sheep) is on board to direct it.
Moominvalley belongs to a growing group of animated TV shows designed to help young kids better understand climate change. The series revolves around a troupe of trolls working together to protect their community and nature at large while tackling problems, such as coming of age and dealing with a comet hurtling towards their world.
Moominvalley has been sold in more than 60 countries, including Japan (NHK), Germany (ZDF), France Télévisions, RTS (Switzerland) and RAI (Italy).
