British broadcaster Sky has named Isaac Nartey (pictured) as an assistant commissioner for kids content

Nartey’s appointment comes as part of a two-year initiative at Sky to broaden its commissioning talent with fresh perspectives and diverse backgrounds. Candidates recruited through the program are identified based on their eye for content, rather than a proven track record in content commissioning.

Nartey is among six execs chosen to assist in select departments at Sky for two years, increasing the broadcaster’s overall commissioner tally from 23 to 30. The cohort will also receive mentoring from the UK’s National Film and Television School (NFTS).

This initiative is funded by Sky as part of its US$35.9-million commitment to tackle structural inequality. The broadcaster is aiming for at least 20% of its employees in the UK and Ireland to be from a Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic background by 2025.

Based in London, Nartey is joining the kids team run by Lucy Murphy, who has headed up kids content at the broadcaster since 2015. He will help manage a slate of Sky Originals for one- to 10-year-olds.

Nartey joined Sky in 2015 and spent seven years as a leader at Sky Academy, a learning initiative for kids as young as eight years old who have an interest in the media business. He helped oversee Sky Academy Studios, which provides hands-on experience to eight- to 16-year-olds, and Sky Academy Careers Lab, which offers career advice to over-16s.

During this time, he also demonstrated a flair for TV content by co-creating a Sky Arts spoken word series called Life & Rhymes (2020) for adult audiences. He was an associate producer on the four x 26-minute project, which won a BAFTA Award in 2021.

Most recently, Nartey served as a manager of responsible productions, with a remit to ensure that all Sky productions were aligned with its sustainability and diversity/inclusion targets.
