LA-based prodco BUCK has optioned three books from Spanish author/illustrator María Ramos, and plans to develop them into a film and two TV series.

Tres Luces (pictured, in English: Three Lights), BadBat and Bubble Gum Boy are all illustrated in Ramos’ distinctive art style. BUCK has already started adapting Tres Luces into an animated feature film for families, and will turn the other two titles into animated TV series. Mike Rauch, the studio’s head of original animation, is overseeing all three projects through development and production.

Tres Luces (Blackie Books, 2022) tells the story of lights that mysteriously fall from the sky in the middle of the night, forcing a mole and his two worm friends to decipher the meaning behind this mysterious celestial event. BadBat (Mamut Comics, 2019) is about a bat who forms a strong friendship with a girl after after she shares her favorite cupcakes with him. And Bubble Gum Boy (Fulgencio Pimentel, 2019) follows a young lad with a gumball-shaped head whose first day of school is marked by a life lesson in the value of being a little bit different.

BUCK is coming off a string of high-profile accolades for its work on We the People, which it produced in 2021 with Higher Ground Productions, Chris Nee and Black-ish creator Kenya Barris.
