In today's pre-Kidscreen Summit deal roundup, Da Vinci pads its edutainment offering in multiple territories, and Dubai heats up with new on-screen and in-store business.

Da Vinci

The streamer has closed two new deals with Beyond Rights in the UK and Toronto’s Boat Rocker Media to acquire more edutainment content for its OTT, pay-TV and FAST channel platforms. Another 200 hours of programming, including Beyond’s Gym Stars (pictured) and Junior Vets; and Boat Rocker STEM series Xploration DIY SCI, will now be available on Da Vinci platforms in the US, UK and Ireland, and the content from Beyond Rights will travel even further to Asia and Central/Eastern Europe.

Toshiverse

The Montreal-based web3 company has hooked up with two key Canadian partnersChizSix Marketing and AKCOto help move its premiere NFT brand from the blockchain onto screens and retail shelves. Wooshi World revolves around a motley crew of cute-yet-chaotic creatures with distinct looks and personality traits. 

Warner Bros. Discovery 

The mediaco’s global consumer products division is teaming up with retailer Fandom to open a Wizarding World pop-up store in Dubai.The dedicated shop will feature licensed products, photo opps and product demonstrations. Merch from licensing partners LEGO, Spin Master, Rubie’s and Funko will also be available for purchase in the store, which opens this month and will be in play until January 31, 2024. 

Spacetoon 

Also in Dubai, two of Moonbug’s shows are heading to local broadcaster Spacetoon with Arabic dubs. The linear channel and streamer has picked up CG-animated My Magic Pet Morphle (14 x 60 minutes) and One Animation’s Oddbods (180 x seven minutes) to entertain its three- to six-year-old viewers. As part of the deal, Spacetoon is also now the licensing agent for both brands in the MENA region. 

Big Bad Boo

In the wake of its married co-founders relocating their family to Vienna, Austria, the Vancouver-based studio is opening a new office there. Austria has a 35% tax credit incentive for film and TV production, and Big Bad Boo’s Shabnam Rezaei and Aly Jetha will use that to build a new slate. The Vienna outpost will develop content and continue work on series that re currently in production, such as Galapagos X and 1001 Nights.The company’s latest 2D-animated series, Billy & the Boingo Band, is going into development with TVO Kids this year.
