LA’s IDW Entertainment has started development on Team Spirit, an animated series tied into an upcoming graphic novel from sister company IDW Publishing.
Targeting kids ages six to 11, the horror-comedy series (52 x 11 minutes) centers around a half-werewolf, half-hyena girl and her dancing demon best friend. Despite being different, they join the cheerleading squad at school to share their infectious spirit with their classmates. The show will make its market debut later this year.
Meanwhile, a tie-in book for kids ages eight to 12 is set for publication in 2024. The authors are Raffaella Delle Donne, Marc Dey and Tshepo Moche (Kiya & the Kimoja Heroes).
This is just the latest book/screen project for IDW. In December, the company put three fantasy book adaptations into development as animated series. Dragon Puncher & Spoony, Korgi and Relic of the Dragon are aimed at kids ages six to 11, and already have showrunners attached.
