Sesame Workshop is continuing its efforts to tailor content for the needs of Ukrainian children.

The nonprofit org has partnered with Kyiv-based media conglom 1+1 Media Group to air a raft of new short-form content “designed to bring playful early learning to children with particular attention to the unique needs and experiences of those affected by crises.”

The 2D-animated Sesame Street videos will air on the company’s local kidcaster PLUSPLUS, starting later this month. There are 140 five-minute videos targeting kids ages three to eight and focusing on STEM, SEL, health and safety.

This deal follows the organization’s open call for Ukrainian creators in November to produce a package of live-action shorts. Like that project, the aforementioned broadcast falls under the org’s Welcome Sesame initiative, which is dedicated to providing content and resources for kids and families affected by conflict and displacement.

The videos feature kid-favorite characters Elmo and Cookie Monster speaking in Ukrainian. “Our new content was designed to meet this moment and build on Sesame’s long history of harnessing the power of media and Muppets to deliver playful learning, joy, and hope to young children,” said Sesame Workshop president Sherrie Westin in a release.

It has been more than a year since the Russian invasion of the country in February 2022, which has caused nearly two-thirds of Ukrainian children to be displaced, according to UNICEF.
