Irish animation studio Boulder Media has hired experienced animation producer Colm Tyrrell as it pursues a strategic expansion into original content for kids and families.
Tyrrell comes to Boulder from Brown Bag Films, where he spent 15 years overseeing the studio’s production pipeline. He starts in his new role on June 6, joining a growing team and taking on a remit that’s all about spearheading the company’s push into originals. Boulder has been operating since 2000 as an animation service studio and is currently working on teen comedy series such as Grimsburg (about a detective with family problems) and Krapopolis (featuring an unconventional family of humans, gods and monsters).
At Brown Bag, Tyrell oversaw a raft of high-profile titles, including Karma’s World (Netflix), Otis the Tractor and Eva the Owlet (Apple TV+), plus Disney titles such as Doc McStuffins, Vampirina and Henry Hugglemonster.
Australia’s Princess Pictures acquired Boulder Media from Hasbro last year. Boulder’s long list of credits includes Cartoon Network sitcom The Amazing World of Gumball and Fremantle’s Danger Mouse.
