Audio system Tonies has cut its first licensing deal with Warner Bros. Discovery, adding DC’s iconic superheroes to its growing portfolio of characters.
Tonies will roll out an initial line of Batman figures to retailers across the US and UK in June, with Wonder Woman and other DC characters joining in later this year. Users can place the figures onto their Toniebox, a speaker for kids ages three and up that plays stories and music. Tonies will expand the DC licensed toys’ distribution to Germany, Austria and Switzerland in 2024.
Since launching its Toniebox product in 2016, Tonies has sold more than 5.1 million systems and 63 million figures worldwide. Kids spend an average of 262 minutes a week playing with their Toniebox, according to a Q1 report the company published earlier this month. The same report said that kids acquire an average of 20 figures in their first four years of Toniebox ownership.
Based in the UK, Tonies made a lot of hay in the audio market during the pandemic, and then parlayed that success into licensing deals with several major kids IPs, including Disney’s Encanto, PAW Patrol, James and the Giant Peach and CoComelon.
