Disney selects first MCU show to launch on linear TV

The entire Ms. Marvel series will air on ABC in August to build hype for upcoming feature film The Marvels.

Ms. Marvel is gearing up to go down in history as the first MCU-based show to launch from Disney+ onto network television. Disney-owned ABC will air the six x 50-minute live-action series in August to build an audience for theatrical film The Marvels, which premieres on November 10.

The series dropped on June 8 exclusively on Disney+, like all original MCU shows. But Disney is putting it on ABC next month as part of a new distribution tactic it’s been testing to introduce kids and families to content and drive them over to the streamer. ABC will air the first three episodes on August 5, and the rest on August 12.  Disney+ has already tried this approach with American Born Chinese, launching a few episodes on ABC, YouTube, Hulu and Roku earlier this month.

Ms. Marvel is an Emmy-nominated series (for music and editing) about Kamala Khan, a Muslim American teen and superhero superfan who starts developing powers herself. The character will make her theatrical debut in The Marvels, teaming up with her idol Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel.
