The Jim Henson Company has appointed LA’s MGA Entertainment as master toy partner for its Apple TV+ live-action series Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock.
MGA is planning to roll out an initial line of plush in 2024, and it will license the IP internally to its Little Tikes preschool brand. Beyond that, the company sees potential in apparel and home goods, and would like to set up licensing deals with manufacturers in these and other categories to expand the program in early 2025. It’s also open to exploring tie-ins with other IPs in its portfolio, including Rainbow High and L.O.L. Surprise!
A reboot of an ’80s classic, Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock is a 13 x 30-minute series for kids ages six and up featuring a merry community of cave-dwelling creatures. Apple TV+ launched season one in January, and Henson is producing a second batch of eps now. The streamer revived the IP three years ago during the pandemic with a short series called Fraggle Rock: Rock On! that featured the Fraggles chatting and catching up via video calls. These episodes were filmed entirely at home since the Henson crew were all in lockdown.
