Zodiak Kids & Family Distribution has signed on to manage global sales for all four seasons of Finnish prodco Gutsy Animations’ CG series Moominvalley.
Three seasons (39 x 22 minutes) have already premiered, and a fourth is set to debut next year. Gutsy produces the series with broadcasters YLE (Finland) and Sky (UK), and Viaplay joined the co-production this January for the fourth season.
Moominvalley is a coming-of-age story about a young troll and his family, telling stories that touch on timely themes related to sustainability and environmentalism. The show launched in 2019 and already airs in more than 60 countries.
Gutsy’s toon is just the latest adaptation of Finnish author Tove Jansson’s popular Moomin IP, which originated in the 1940s as a series of books and comic strips. Multiple TV series and movies have been made over the years, including ’90s anime series Moomin and the 2014 film Moomins on the Riviera.
