UK distributor CAKE is expanding the tween franchise Total Drama under a new deal with LA-based AVOD operator Future Today.
Future Today is picking up all five seasons of the animated IP for its streaming service HappyKids. More than 100 half-hour eps will drop on the platform in November. Simultaneously, a Total Drama app from Future Today, featuring all of the brand’s shows, will launch on Roku and Fire TV.
Canadian prodco Fresh TV produces Total Drama (pictured), and CAKE handles worldwide distribution. Originally titled Total Drama Island, the series debuted in 2007 on Cartoon Network/Teletoon, where it generated strong viewership numbers thanks to its quirky satirical premise: a reality show where teenagers participate in dangerous challenges.
In addition to the original five seasons, the Total Drama franchise includes the spinoffs Total Drama Presents: The Ridonculous Race and the aged down reimagining, Total DramaRama.
Last year, Cartoon Network/Max greenlit a revival of the core series, and CBBC came on board the new episodes as a co-commissioner. This soft reboot is set 15 years after the events of the first season, and resumes the original title, Total Drama Island.
